<description>Q. why someone would call what is essentially an array a vector when a vector is clearly the line between two points.

A. A row or column vector is a linear algebra notation of a 1xn or nx1 matrix i.e. an array, the line between two points is a graphical vector.

(this next bit is more of a guess)
In fact the original use of vector was to describe position and velocity as often given by the position of a point both at an arbitrary time and a unit of time in the future which would thus give two definite points the vector of which being the line between the two as with 2d graphics vectors.

Sorry but one more statement that was made erroneously (is that a word, it looks weird?!?!)
As for java being the first language to use vectors again I think this is incorrect as vectors were part of the C++ STL and I am pretty sure this was invented before java was a twinkle in James Goslings&#039; eye</description>
